The Guardian: This hotel in the beautiful, secluded Paradise Bay is run by a Japanese-Turkish family. It is just by the water with a stunning view, and you can relax on the long wooden jetty listening to nature, without any disturbances. The sea is so clear - just like an aquarium - you can watch the fish go by. The food is delicious, Aegean and Japanese." February 2007

good for turkey
Water, purified by the hotel, is heated with solar energy - efforts are made to preserve both water and energy, and guests are provided with guidelines on how to save resources. The garden has been regenerated with native plants. The hotel does not provide or encourage the use of high-power engine boats or jet-skis that contribute to noise pollution, water pollution, the disturbance of sea life and carbon emissions. Instead, the hotel offers canoes, small sailboats, windsurf, snorkels and mountain bikes.
The hotel has also fought the expansion of polluting fish farms along the coast, and it hires local staff and guides, as well as purchasing from local independent suppliers and growers where possible.
Highs
- The location is excellent – you have innumerable sites at hand, while at the same time enjoying the peace and quiet of a resort without the feeling of being cut off in an "all-inclusive" environment.
Lows
- Children are discouraged – if you must bring them, the hotel requests that they be thoroughly supervised.
- Not all the hotel's energy is produced by solar cells, so it's far from 100% green, and air conditioning means lots of carbon emissions.
Rooms
There are 22 standard rooms to choose from each with ensuite bath and pretty private balcony with sea view. The decor is simple yet elegant.
The 10 deluxe rooms are literally double in size and come with a number of individual touches such as Persian rugs and potted palms. The rooms also have private balconies with garden view.
Either a twin or double arrangement is available among the standard and deluxe rooms.
There are three large suites for those looking to splash out. These come with a large private terrace and large plasma screen TVs.
All the rooms have a safety deposit box, mosquito nets, hair dryer, mini bar, TV direct telephone, air conditioner and a minibar.

Food
The Atami Restaurant's menu draws on traditions as varied as Turkish, Mediterranean & Japanese cuisines, fusion specialities and vegetarian specialties.
The Turkish dishes use rich flavours and fresh ingredients and the menu includes many local recipes of the Aegean region along with Turkish classics.
The Japanese-born hostess is responsible for preparing the Japanese dishes here and there are a number of set lunch menus to choose from. Favourites include the Osaka sushi menu prepared from marinated salmon and sea bream or the teriyaki chicken menu.

Local Info & Activities
Atami Hotel is situated in Bodrum, one of the most popular holiday destinations in the Aegean region of Turkey. Gölköy, the village where Atami Hotel is located, is famous for its lively night life with numerous waterfront cafés and bars.
Bodrum, whose ancient name is Halikarnassus, is the birth place of Herodotus and home to many ancient civilizations. The city features lively bazaars, museums, an ancient amphitheatre with excellent productions, cultural festivals, hamams (traditional Turkish bathhouses) and lots of cafes and restaurants to suit any taste or budget.
Bodrum also has a great number of tour companies offering sight-seeing and sporting activities in the area.
Cultural sights and experiences
There are three hamams, or traditional Turkish baths, in the area – ask the hotel about how to visit.
The Yalikavak Bazaar (open Thursdays) is full of colour and vitality – the spice stores selling countless powders and pastes, an incredible array of fresh fruit and vegetables, and tea and pastry stands serving local delicacies. Other local bazaars include a fabric bazaar and a food bazaar. Ask the hotel for advice on when and where to go.
The town of Göltürkbükü is the "marriage" of the villages Gölköy ( Karianda ) and Türkbükü. This twin city is blessed with a beautiful beach and has a good selection of seafood restaurants serving the freshly cooked catch from the Mandalya Gulf. Archeology buffs can take a walk into the hills and visit the remains of Karianda, a Lelege city found 5000 years ago. No excavations have been undertaken yet but the outer limits of the site have been identified.
The two villages are still separate from each other though it takes only 5 min to go from one village to another by car. However, the atmosphere of these two are quite different.
trekking & walking
A walk on the small hills surrounding Paradise Bay reveals other delightful bays and inlets. If you are interested in more vigorous exercise, take a walk and scramble to the summit of Karadag ("Black Mountain" - one of the highest hills in the Torba region), which provides stunning views of the Bodrum Peninsula and the Greek island of Kos. You can also explore the surroundings on bike and visit the nearby forest and villages.
water sports
Atami Hotel is situated on a sheltered bay perfect for windsurfing, canoeing and sailing. The hotel also features a floating marina, Port Atami, ideal for those guests who would like to spend some time ashore, before or after their yacht cruises.
In summer, there are daily boat trips leaving from Gölköy that cruise the bays around the village. They also stop at Paradise Bay, and they can pick you up from Atami. They serve lunch and afternoon tea on the boat. To join one of these tours, just ask the hotel desk to make a reservation.
yoga, meditation, massage and beauty treatments
Heal your soul and your body. In addition to the yoga holidays and yoga retreats organised in early summer and fall, summer is the time for individual yoga and mediation lessons. The classes are both for beginners and intermediate levels. If you're interested in the yoga retreats, contact the Good Travel Co. for details.
At Atami Hotel, you can take the opportunity to rejuvenate yourself with a range of massage therapies, reiki, meditation and relaxation techniques.
Sustainability
- Atami has made a big effort to plant indigenous trees on the property and as a result, the area is much greener than it was a decade ago.
- Organic garbage is composted, and the hotel recycles as much as it can.
- Atami has a water purification system that cleans water from a well, and uses the grey water for irrigation.
- Solar cells heat water for the bathrooms.
- Guests are asked to help conserve energy and water by only asking for fresh towels and linens when necessary, using their energy-saver key holders and only turning the air conditioning on when it's really hot.
- Atami successfully campaigned to remove fish farms that were polluting the area, from Paradise Bay.
- Atami supports the local community by hiring local guides who know the area well and can introduce guests to local customs. Local villages are nearby and guests are encouraged to visit
- As a bed and breakfast, Atami particularly encourages guests to try out local cafes, restaurants and bars. The hotel buys its own supplies from local providers, and hires local staff.
