Lama di Luna is the unlikeliest of green getaways; it's a huge, renovated 18th-century working farm near Andria, 70km from Puglia, just above the heel of Italy. The fortified building was once home to 26 "tenant farmer" families, and although 40 chimneys still line the gravelled courtyard, the computer-controlled heating is powered by 48 solar panels that make use of all that blissful southern Italian sun. Nine of the estate's rooms have been converted into large, en suite guestrooms - each with a snug fireplace, and there's one apartment for four. Sleep in unbleached cotton sheets, wash with pure olive soap and tuck into an organic breakfast on a terrace overlooking olive, cherry and almond groves and the coast.”
