good for you
Located at 700 metres' height on the slopes of Mount Batukaru in central Bali, this ecolodge enjoys spectacular views to the sea and the mountain tops, with the protected rainforest just five minutes' walk away.
Set in fragrant gardens and surrounded by a lush tropical "food forest" of cacao, coffee, vanilla and jungle fruits, three traditional Balinese bungalows are crafted from local materials and stylishly decorated with Balinese textiles and handcrafted furniture. Hole up in your own private lodging or join your fellow guests - there are never more than ten at one time - in the lodge's open-air restaurant to enjoy traditional Balinese dishes made from organic food grown at the lodge.
While Sarinbuana is a perfect place to relax with some meditation, a book and a massage, most people will come here to engage in the many outdoor activities. The lodge can organise guides for day and rainforest mountain treks of Mt Batukaru, visits to local farms to learn about coffee- and cacao-growing, birdwatching and daytrips to Bali's northern beaches, hotsprings and local villages, where you can take part in a traditional Hindu celebration. The lodge also has over 20 workshops you can take part in from Balinese cooking, making temple offerings and dressing in Balinese costume to Balinese language, writing, and spiritual and social discussions. You can learn how to make a kite, go fishing in our local ponds or learn how to play a Balinese instrument.

Sustainability
For 15 years the Sarinbuana Ecolodge has actively engaged with the community to encourage locals to preserve and value the surrounding natural resources.
The lodge employs only local staff and is committed to improving their skills while supporting their cultural and religious beliefs, providing alternative employment to farming families especially in times of financial stress. Local people are employed for construction projects, and the lodge has also directly employed five locals - mainly young women who make up the permanent lodge staff. The lodge has also facilitated an Eco tourism project, helping five young locals to start their own business.
The lodge has worked with the local community to establish "a no catching birds" policy, which has seen the local bird population dramatically increase over several years.
The lodge has worked with the local community to help raise US$30.000 through Aus Aid (the Australian Government's Aid body) and Seacology grants to benefit the local community through eco-tourism and other projects.
The lodge has implemented the protection of 250 hectares of neighboring rainforest (the largest natural rainforest of only two that remain in Bali).
The lodge's buildings are low impact Balinese style, with extensive use of local natural materials. It uses a gravity-fed water system, recycles where possible and uses sustainable waste water treatment systems that return waste to the garden, as well as natural cleaning products for housekeeping and non toxic pesticides.
The lodge has created an environmental education program for local children and school groups, run by co-owner Linda Van't Hoff, an Environmental Studies teacher and organic gardener.
