The Observer Top 20 deserted beaches in the world) Number 14, Guludo Beach. Elephants pick mangoes from trees and dugongs wallow in the shallows eating seagrass on this virgin white beach in the Quirimbas National Park... Guests staying at the Guludo Beach Lodge can explore the historic Ibo Island, once a major slave and ivory trading point, dive the unexplored coral reefs and join fishermen in their dug-out canoes.
Getaway Magazine:
At Guludo there's good diving and a wide sweep of (very tidal) beach, but the ethos at this British-run lodge is eco-tourism and fair trade. To this end the owners and managers are heavily involved in community projects, social upliftment and education and guests are encouraged to get stuck in too. The idea behind Bespoke Experience - of which Guludo is a part - is to create luxury resorts designed to complement the environment and help local people. In doing so it hopes to raise international benchmarks against which other ethical tourism companies can be measured.
The Guardian:
Guludo Beach Lodge is charming, a resort that's kicking the norm: it's eco, ethical and bang-on.
